I’m incredibly proud to announce that Malden Police just received $39,772 in Edward J Byrne Grant funding for a new electronic message board and for mental health crisis intervention training for officers. The training will be the first step toward a jail diversion program. The program’s goal will be to establish a mental health counselor staff position to respond to mental health crises and connect those in crisis with appropriate treatment.
I’m so glad that the City was able to take advantage of these funds made available through the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security so that our City can be better equipped to treat mental illness. Thank you Peg Crowe for Ward 1 City Council for making this all possible!
